Veterinary Compounds

»Working with Veterinarians, The Compounding Apothecary can prepare innovative, easy-to-use dosage forms for your animal.

We do not practice veterinary medicine, but we do work with veterinarians to solve their challenging medication problems. We have a state-of-the art compounding lab. We use modern technology, innovative medication dosing devices and high-quality bulk pharmaceuticals to compound a variety of problem-solving medication dosage forms.

We also can flavor your pet's medication with a variety of flavor choices, depending on the animal type and taste preferences. For example, liver, peanut butter and beef are often preferred by canines. Butter, chicken, fish are some feline favorites. Tutti-frutti and bananas for birds and apples and caramel for your equine patients. We also assist vets in flavoring medication for exotics and zoo animals.

Some animal medications are available only in one tablet size, making it difficult sometimes for the animal to swallow. We can compound dosage forms that are the correct dosage amount for your patient. We can do this by either compounding a flavored or unflavored suspension for our smaller, harder to medicate clients or make a transdermal cream that can be applied directly to the animal.

We do methimazole creams for cats! We have had success with people applying the methimazole cream to the inner aspect of the cats ear. This cuts down on the stress for the cat as well as the person giving the medication.

Do you need a concentrated dosage for a small animal or bird? We can compound the medication into smaller increments needed, or concentrate a medication for larger animals.

Next time you have a challenging medication problem, please call The Compounding Apothecary. We would be happy to work with you!
